Breeding question...

Postby mhk123 » Mon Mar 26, 2018 5:59 am

Hello everybody, I was just wondering if anybody could answer a couple of questions for me. Recently we have had to take out one of the cichlids out of our main tank and stick her in the separate tank we have as she was being bullied (literally had to take her out to save her life). The only other tank we have is used as our fry tank and currently only has one fry in which is about 3-4 month old now, we were just waiting for it to gain some size before adding it to the main tank. This morning I have noticed that the Cichlid we added to the tank who was getting bullied is holding. Is this possible for her to mate with the 3-4 month old Cichlid? She wasn’t holding before we added her and was eating and on the mend, only just noticed this morning she is holding and isn’t eating etc. I’m so confused right now, any advice would be appreciated :-) Thank you.

I've seen spawning in surprisingly small fish...how big is the juvenile and what species?

Are you including the tail when you measure? Sounds about right if the body is an inch.

Females can pick up eggs without a male, but they are not fertilized. If she holds more than a week then it's possible.
