Anyone able to sex this Electric Blue Hap

Postby ozpkchris » Sun Jul 11, 2021 5:15 pm

Anyone able to sex this electric Blue Hap I have it for two weeks from a local breeder, it has grown a bit and is looking more gray leading me to think female ( and then rehomed)

Fish was sold as a blue ahli

I am reading conflicting information on Egg spots on females for this species but it does have egg spots, Fin shape from my reading leads me to think male, but then there is the lack of color.

How long does it typically take this species to color up ( in males) ?

Pictures below, thanks; from newest ti oldest (last one was taken two weeks ago

You have a bigger problem than trying to determine whether this fish is a male or female, because it is clearly not Sciaenochromis ahli.

Juveniles-

I would bet that you 'local breeder' has no idea either, because if he sold it as Sciaenochromis ahli, then clearly he doesn't know what he's doing. My guess would be some kind of Hap and/or Peacock hybrid. Sorry for the bad news. :-?
