Turkis and Sciaenochromis fryeri??

Can you keep these two species together in an all make tank or are they too close in color?

They are OK together since one is aulonocara and one is Sciaenochromis. Genus and shape makes them different enough regardless of color.

The fish are completely unaware that we've categorized them in different genera. It's going to be completely irrelevant as to whether they get along or not.

With mixed male tanks, it's always an experiment as to what will work, even if it's worked with a dozen people before. Each fish has it's own personality. The closer the colours, and shapes, the less likely that they will get along. I'd say try it, but as always, understand it might not work.

Will a Turkis have a noticeably lighter blue coloration, or is that all up to chance as well

It should, but that's going to depend on the lines... there is quite a bit of variation in this man made fish, so who knows.
