75 gallon mbuna stocking addition jalo reef

Postby Dpgaynie » Mon Nov 02, 2020 9:55 am

Good morning! I have a fairly new 75 gallon mbuna tank. It is currently stocked with 8 yellow labs, 5 yellow tail acei and 4 rusties. I’m thinking about adding 4 jalo reef. Does anyone see any problems with this? Will diet be an issue? I see jalo reef are listed as a carnivore. Does that simply mean they can handle more protein and less likely to bloat? My tank is peaceful. So I do not want to create any problems. I just really like the colors of the jalo reef. Thanks in advance!

Remember only the male is colorful with the Jalo Reef. You could have 4 species with 1m:4f of each with the mbuna you list. I might swap out a couple of yellow labs when you add the Jalo's.

Diet for all could be the same...lower protein is good for all mbuna. By the same token they are not strict herbivores since the algae they eat in the lake is full of microorganisms that are not plants...tiny crustaceans for example.
