Fish Dying

Sun Mar 15, 2020 12:30 pm

I started stocking my tank a little over 2 weeks ago. I started with 6 Yellow tail Acei, 6 Cherry Red Zebras and 6 Saulosi. The problem is I have lost 3 of the saulosi in this time. All of the other fish are doing great. My tank is a 210 gallon with a sump filter. It just seams to be the Saulosi with the problem. They slowly get lethargic and quit eating?

If I remember this is a new tank correct? Water parameters?

Are the fish adults or juvies? Any sign of aggression?

Did you buy the fish locally or mail order at the same time? Just curious if the saulosi might have been ill when you purchased them.

tank has been running for about 6 weeks I ran it for a couple of weeks empty with material from another tank to seed it. After 2 weeks I added a single fish from another tank and then another a week later, and then ordered these All of my parameters seem good. They are all juvies from the same place. Like I said all of the others seem fine, a little chasing but nothing crazy aggressive. Water temp at 78 degrees. Feeding them Rons Cichlid Juvie pellets

Are you able to post test results for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? Do you use test tubes and liquid reagents for testing? Not all fish will sicken/die at the same time in a tank with water problems.

PH7.5 Nitrites 0, Nitrates Between 0 and 20,180GH,120KH and Ammonia 0. Ammonia test with test tube and the others with a Dip strip

Are any of the saulosi males showing color? How many? What do the feces look like on the lethargic fish? Are they lurking under the surface or near filter intakes or heaters?

Any nipped or split fins? Missing scales?

No color or nipped fins, haven't noticed the feces, and they just lay around on the bottom

Keep an eye out for feces. Thick and food colored are good. Thin and thready, white and clear could be bloat.
