Taiwan Reef

Postby Darwin94 » Mon Mar 09, 2020 8:19 pm

Wonder if anyone could help me here. I'm newer to African cichlids and am having trouble telling g if this is a male or female. It was sold to me as a male Taiwan Teef Hap and is at about 2 and half inches. It has never showed any color so I'm not sure if it's a female or is still too small to show color.

Do not see any signs of male color or traits, but could still be possibly male.

If the fish is with a bunch of larger males, if male he could be very slow to color up. Now if there are not other colored up males in the tank, then should color up if male. Color depends on pecking order, especially with coloring up early.

This doesn't look like a Taiwan Reef to me Its shape is wrong and the markings don't look right. I attached a pic of a Taiwan reef fry. Looks like a peacock (aulonocara) in shape. I do kinda see some possible Taiwan Markings comparing the 2 pics. Sort of? It could be a hybrid of both?
