Will a holding female release some?

Postby ironspider » Sun Mar 01, 2020 9:49 am

I've had a holding yellow tail acai for a couple weeks now, but this morning we found two new fry hidden in the rocks. The yellow tail still looks like she's holding though, could she have accidentally let some out and kept the rest?

It's possible, could also be from a previous spawn.

I have seen females struggle to keep the fry in their mouths, and have 1-2 escape. I take it as a sign she will spit soon.

If the female has only been holding 2 weeks then I agree likely from a previous spawn.

She spit the day I wrote that, just a little later. I found 2 remaining in the rocks. They aren't in really good spots so I expect to lose them.
