Cookie Cutter question

Postby jed clampett » Sun Oct 13, 2019 3:55 pm

Some of these seem to go against many of the "norms" for compatibility that are often stated. In particular, I was looking at this "Mixed Malawi" Cookie Cutter under 75 gallon tanks:

• Aulonocara stuartgranti - 4
• Copadichromis mloto - 4
• Labidochromis chisumulae - 6
• Pseudotropheus saulosi - 6

I'd like to try something like this but am wondering about the 2 blue barred mbuna species. Help? Clarifications?

You are absolutely correct. I would not put chisumulae with saulosi, and the mloto and stuartgranti are on the timid side...not a good fit with an aggressive mbuna like chisumulae or even a friendly one like saulosi.

What's up with the 'cookie cutters" then? ....and are there haps and mbuna that ARE compatible?

Some of the cookie cutters were written long ago and could use a review for updates.

You have been a member for 7 years and have seen that people post their stock lists and ask for input.

I personally have tried the 2 mbuna often recommended as a mix with haps: yellow labs and acei.

Having tried both, I prefer keeping haps and mbuna separate, but those 2 species at least will not kill or be killed by the haps and peacocks (in general).
