Any info on Petrotilapia sp.'Thick Bars' Chitimba?

Postby Deeda » Sat Jun 15, 2019 12:46 pm

I picked up 6 one inch fish at auction last night and can't find any info on the species in the topic title. All that I can find is that they are a Malawi cichlid. :(

I searched C-F and saw one reference from 2010 and cichlidae only shows a fish labeled as Petrotilapia sp. 'Chitimba' with very little info on this species. If my fish are labeled correctly, could that be them?

The seller left the auction before I was able to ask him any questions. :?

A distinctive Mbuna, the barring is kinda permanent like a Kenyi which is unusual. They kinda seem superficially similar to Perlmutt. Or even a Protomelas Taiwan Reef Hap.

Petrotilapia are like Zebras except bigger, so you would want a 6 foot tank.

Thank you so much! When they are big enough, they'll move to the 72" 220 G tank.
