Tropheus Duboisi Halembe in Community tank

Mon May 27, 2019 7:44 pm

I just got my third wave of African Cichlids to complete my new tank (75 gallons).
I have ordered mostly Mbunas and Haps but then I heard that many people have success with fish from all the African lakes.
One of the fish I ordered is the Tropheus Duboisi Halembe.
What a wonderful fish! But now I am reading that this fish cannot eat protein ...that would be in the diet of my community tank which is stocked with omnivors and herbavores.
I hear that this fish will get the bloat from eating the food in the tank that is protein based including blood worms.
Do I need to find this fish a new home quickly or can he survive my tank?

I first posted this in another discussion but I think it really belongs here.

I have not had long term success with mixing lakes. I would rehome a tropheus.

PS In general I would also not mix mbuna and haps, with exceptions for certain species.

Thank you. I will rehome him. He is so cute that it makes me wish I had another tank. I hear your words about the mbunas and haps. I won't tell who the company is because I mean no harm but they have extensive experience and say it can be done easier then I thought. But I hear you and if there are any problems I will be rehoming several because I have about half and half.
