Stocking - 46 gallon bowfront - labidochromis caeruleus

Mon Jun 18, 2018 10:23 pm

I have a 46 gallon bowfront, aragonite substrate, lace rock structures. Currently stocked with 6 labidochromis caeruleus and 5 zebra loaches. The labs were raised from about 1/2" and I've had the loaches for about 10 years.

- keep the labs and loaches :fish:
- keep aggression low (can't we all just get along) :D
- add 1 more group of cichlids
- preferably in the 4" range
- color must be vibrant for both male and females. No washed out, brown females.
- leaning towards something in blue, blue stripes, etc :o
- I haven't ruled out 1-3 peacocks, but was leaning towards mbuna or some other compatible Malawi species

Can you give me some tried and true suggestions?
Thanks so much for your help!

What are the dimensions of the tank? Measure the front to back at the side and not the middle.

Guessing 36x12. If that is true, just stick with the labs and loaches...not sure if 5 zebra loaches is too many. You are fully stocked.

If you want to add a species I would buy a 48x12 tank at least.

I am kind of disappointed since I was interested in adding some blue.

18 tall x 36 long x 12 wide (17" at the bow).

For species, 5 botia striata seems to be a good number. I've had 3 of the botia for about 10 years. I added 2 more a few years ago after a little research and the group "came alive". Previously they were a little more skittish. I suppose they truly do like to be in slightly larger groups than a pair.
