75 Gallon Stocking

Postby Plorbond » Thu May 06, 2021 12:35 am

Hey all! Just realized I mistakenly made this post in the Central American Cichlids section, my bad, so I'm reposting here.

I currently have a 75 gallon stocked with the following:

1 x Heros cf. efasciatus (Red Spot Gold Severum)
5 x Corydoras paleatus (Peppered Cory)

I was thinking of adding either

8 x Pterophyllum scalare (Angelfish, they come as an 8 pack of dime sized from the seller I plan to purchase them from, eventually will separate all but a pair out)

or

1 x Heros sp. rotkeil (Red Shoulder Severum)
1 x Uaru amphiacanthoides (Uaru)
9 x some large-bodied tetra

Any suggestions or ideas? I'm open to anything. Maybe another Severum of the same species instead?

I would definitely go with adding the Tetras anyway.
- Up to 5 larger-growing Buenos Aires Tetras (or Silver Dollars)
- or -
- Up to 8 mid-sized Black Widow or Serpae Tetras
Add Cichlids as follows,
- 8 initial baby-sized Angelfish, grown out to an eventual, single pair
- or -
- Add a single Red Spot Gold Severum
-
And, I would add one or two more Corydoras catfish to that 5 member school you have now, plus a single Ancistrus type (Bristlenose), or smaller-growing Pleco. :)

Thanks for the suggestions!

May I ask why I shouldn’t add either a single Uaru or Rotkeil? I’ve read some sources that say Uaru shouldn’t he kept alone while others say it’s fine. As for the Rotkeil, I just love their coloration and wanted something to contrast the super vibrant Red Spot.

I’ll most likely end up doing the angels route regardless, those are always a crowd pleaser (family likes to watch my tank)

Ahhh well.... call me a 'purist', if you like.
(And yes, accidents DO happen)

So, to avoid those unfortunate things, I just like to set things up initially in a purpose-built aquarium stocking scheme, so that the Cichlids will basically spawn/breed true to their type, and most esp. their SPECIES.
- Two different Severum types? :?
- Uaru and Severum spawning problem? :(
-
Cichlid Mongrels - and most esp. HYBRIDS just really are NOT my thing. And, if you wind up putting a male/female combo Uaru-Severum, as the only Cichlids stocked in that aquarium? Heh.... well. :x
-
So yeah.... those are my stocking recommendations.
