Amano Shrimp + Apistos = trouble?

Postby ButchAZ » Thu Sep 13, 2018 1:14 pm

Am I asking for trouble putting Amano Shrimp in a 46 gallon planted tank with Apistos and tetras? They’d have plenty of places to hide, for sure.

As no reply thought I'd put up my experience on this topic.

After Discus, SA dwarfs are my thing, especially Apistos, and I've kept and bred many. Apistogramma species I've kept with Amano's include Cacatuoides, Agassizii, Elizabethae, borellii, trifasiata, and panduro. Never experienced any issues as long as the Amano shrimp are gully grown. Apistos will go to town on any shrimp that will fit in their mouths though and Cacatuoides in particular have relatively big mouths. Amano grow pretty large though and I have many that have survived years in with fully grown Discus without issue.

Hope this helps.
