South American Cichlids • Mcmasteri "red neck" question

My LFS has a mated (?) pair of Mcmasteri “red neck” but they’re still very small. At what age will they mate? They’re both almost pure creamy white with very subtle markings, but he says they’ll be stunners when they’re adults. True??
