Water temp for SA cichlids?

Postby ButchAZ » Wed Aug 08, 2018 9:03 pm

I’m a total noob at this. This will be my first FW tank in 25+ years (my, have things changed!). I have a 46 bow front acrylic tank. Live in Tucson, where temps are pretty high this time of year, but quite mild in the winter. I tend to keep my a/c set around 77-78 in the summer and around 73 in the winter when heat is required (yes, we have furnaces in southern Arizona!). The package I bought came with a chiller, but I’m thinking that won’t really be necessary.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Depends on the particular cichlids. South American is a big place and temperatures vary greatly. Uruguayan cichlids, for example, need a cooler winter. Discus and angels need warmer temperatures.

What types of SA cichlids do you want to keep?

Probably a pair of apistos and some hatchets and tetras.
