Apisto again or Nannacara or Laetacara?

Postby Biciclid » Sun Sep 10, 2017 8:03 am

Hi, had my 65gal low tech southamerican tank for over 10 years. Used to have a male Apisto borellii and one hongsloi, now bith deceased probably of old age as had them over 3 years
Water is soft (kh 2) and pH 6.8
Unecided if getting a pair of Apistos again (borellii yellowcheecks? agassizii?) or a few Nannacara or Laetacara? Never kept the last 2 so advice greatly appreciated.
Here is the tank (minus the apistos, there are also 3 BN and a few otos). Thanks

I acquired what I thought was a pair of Gold Triple Red Caucatoides several weeks ago. Turned out to be 2 males. Just got a pair of regular triple reds from ApistoDave and they are amazing.. I had to move the 2 Golds to another 75. I've had most of the common dwarfs and there is just no comparison to a pair of Apistos! I am considering adding a Pair of Borelli or Baenschi (if i can find them) to one of the tanks. GBR's, Bolivians, Nannacara or Laetacara just don't compare for me. Apisto's are more like puppies than fish. So my recommendation is pretty clear

This is really up to you, each person preference is different. If it was me, I would go for the Laetacara.

A group of Laetacara thayeri would be cool in a community setting.

I used to keep apistos almost exclusively and my favorite was Apistogramma baenschi.

Ordered Apisto borelii again as nice and peaceful, I can order Laetacara curviceps/dorsigera in the near future. Would they be a threat to the smallest fish in the tank (Hypessobrycon amandae)? I would like the comunity tank nice and relaxing, got the 2 mbuna tanks for high octane antics. Ciao

Should be getting the new A borelii pair Wednesday, do you think it would be possible to add Nannacara to the tank at a later stage? In the mean time here are my new juvie red melon discus, their tank will remain BB untill most of yhe growth is over. Ciao
