Strange behavior

Postby Writesds » Sun May 07, 2017 10:47 pm

My Pearl Cichlid is constantly chased around by a smaller Jack Dempsey. I noticed a few days ago that the gavel is starting to get l pushed in one area into a little hill. After flattening the mound this morning, I saw the Pearl putting the pebbles into his mouth and spitting them onto a new mound of gravel. Any thoughts on why he might be doing this? Do I need to create better sanctuary for him? Could it be food related? Thanks

What are the dimensions of the aquarium?

What other fish are in the tank?

Geophagus naturally are sand sifting fish.. they'll pick up the sand, and sift through it looking for food. The Pearl a little less so than many other types, but still known to do it. Cichlids as a whole are known to pick up gravel and move it around, just natural behaviour.
