beginners question

Postby hadleyr » Tue Mar 28, 2017 7:23 am

Hi all. I have inherited a tank 104cm x 42cm x 62cm. I inherited it with the following stock:
1 adult bristlenose
1 adult blood parrot
5 small plecos (I know they will grow too big and need to be switched out)
9 yellow labs about 3 or 4 cm length
5 demasoni about 3 or 4 cm length
5 giraffe about 3 or 4 cm length
5 OB peacocks about 2 or 3 cm in length.
I am using 2 x Jebo 828 (1200 liters per hour each "in theory" plus airstone. Have a large piece of driftwood / root and lots of rocks with hiding spaces.
Its been about 6 weeks and everyone gets on well (except the occasional fighting between the 2 adults).

I understand that the blood parrot should not be with the rest and also that the giraffes will be too big and aggressive.
Any comments? at what size will the "war" start if I leave the status quo.
Thanks!!!

The tank is 41" long by 16" deep from front to back.

The giraffe and OB peacocks need a bigger tank. One bristlenose is enough for this size tank. I would rehome the small plecos and the peacocks and giraffe now.

You could stock a 40" tank with 12 demasoni and a trio of labs (after removing extra males)...or just keep the labs and maybe one demasoni.

Even with just the demasoni and the labs I would think you have six months before you see signs of problems with 5 demasoni (not 12 and not 1). Female demasoni and labs can spawn at 4cm but males might wait until they are a little larger. Maybe you will get lucky with 1 male demasoni and the rest females and it will work out.
