Cookie Cutter Terms

Postby CharlesMTF » Fri Dec 30, 2016 3:19 pm

Quick question on some of the cookie cutters in the library...

I will use this one for example:

Aggressive SA Community
• Gymnogeophagus balzani - 1:3
• Mesonauta festivus - 1 pair
• Crenicichla compressiceps "Dwarf Pike" - 1 pair
• Hemmigramus caudovittatus "Buenos Aires Tetra" - 8-10
• Leporacanthicus galaxias "Vampire Pleco" - 1
• Ancistrus sp. "Bristlenose Pleco" - 1

When it says "1:3", that means 1 male to 3 females, correct?

And, when it specifies 1 pair, that refers to a male/female pair?

Yes, the ratio 1:3 means 1 male and 3 females.

1 pair is a male and female and usually refers to ones that have spawned together already.

The Cookie Cutter tank setups are based on what has worked for current or past members and is not always a guarantee that it will work positively.

Yes, I agree with Deeda. Use the Cookie-Cutter as a guide only.

I don't even believe that.
Especially most of the SA and CA cookie cutter suggestions, i don't believe most of these tanks ever were set up by the person who is suggesting them.
They were simply made up. What some aquarist figured might work. Concocted because they had to come up with a suggestion for the category.
i mean c'mon how long does 5 serpae tetras last with a pair of breeding cons in a 20 gal? How long does a pair of neets coexist in a 20 gal.? How long does a pair of sals and a pair opf cons co-exist in a 55 gal.?
