Sponge Filter Question

Postby wags1985 » Sun Jul 17, 2016 12:03 pm

I know this is a fresh water forum but I was just wondering if someone on here has an answer for me. My friend is starting up a 55 gallon salt water tank. I was wondering if I could put one of my mature sponge filters in his salt water tank to help speed up the cycle process for him? I often do this with my freshwater tanks but not sure if it will work with a salt water system. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have not tried it but surely the saline water will kill the bacteria established in freshwater.
