UV Sterlilizer Results

Postby vivbama » Mon May 23, 2016 7:34 am

I just installed 2 small (9v) UV sterilizers on my tank (one on each end). I upgraded to a larger tank & was having an algae bloom. I wanted to share my results.

What caused the algae bloom?

I assume it was upgrading to a larger tank. Even though I moved the media to the new tank, it still had to go through the cycle.

That looks good. I do wonder what would have happened if there were no UV sterilizer. Might it have cleared up on it's own?

I've never had green water, fortunately. I've had the bacterial bloom with new tanks and a couple that had a disturbed cycle, however. My experience with the bacterial bloom is enough that if I see cloudy water my stomach rumbles a little :)

An algae bloom is not a given when cycling a tank...I have never had one either.
