Depends on the species. Columbian zebras are a type of Hypancistrus which don't get big and breed at a small size. About 2.5-3" for a male. Look for fuzzy projections called odontodes on the leading edge of the pectoral fins and around the caudal peduncle when the male is in breeding condition. They will need a cylindrical cave with a 1.5-2" diameter for them to breed in.

About 3 inches is when they will breed. They are cave breeders.
