Eye Eaten Out On Green Terror

Postby willrwilli » Fri Jun 06, 2008 11:53 pm

About a week ago my Green Terror came out of nowhere. I noticed how beat up it looked. It had been hanging out near the heater, and the filter tubes, but was in good shape. It obviously have been getting drilled by the other fish. When it turned around I notice that it no longer had an eye on it's right side. It died a few hours later. My questions are Should I have euthenized this fish once I saw the damage? , and does this happen often? I have found myself doing an eye check on all of the fish. In the past when there is a death there is always an eye missing on the dead fish. I am now wondering if the eye was eaten out before the death, and was the cause of the death. I have an assorted African tank with a bunch of rocks for hiding.

Africans are too rough and tumble for SA/CA cichlids of the same size. The cause of death was the africans. I have had plenty of fish live for years without an eye or eyes.

Green terrors are not very tough when young, and would be an easy target for an african cichlid.

That makes sense. When I stocked this tank I knew much less than I know now. WIth the rocks for the most part everyone gets along, but If I could do it again I would do all Africans.
