Convict Cichlid - Male or Female???

Postby loveappa » Wed May 30, 2018 12:41 pm

Hi All,
Need some help.

I have been keeping convicts for some time now. However, I am unable to identify the sex of my latest convict. It has got all the characteristics of a female, except for any orange anywhere on the body. Also my male Green Terror has been trying the courtship-dance with the convict recently, although it doesn't show any interest.
I have uploaded recent images of the fish. It's around 3 inches.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

That''s not a standard Convict, that is a Honduran Red Point, still considered an undescribed species by some. It may also be a hybrid with a standard Convict, but it looks pretty much pure to me.

Thanks for the useful information.
Do the attached pics have enough information for you to guess whether that's a male or a female?

I felt the same. The small nuchal hump points to it being a male.
Strange that the male GT thought it to be a female. I thought fishes can know each other's sex better/faster than us.
Wonder what gay stuff the GT was thinking during the courtship dance. :D
