I have a 56 gallon column tank (18" L x 30" W x 24" H) decorated with some holey rock and live plants (picture attached). The fish that are currently in the tank are mbunas that will all be re-homed before adding the new fish. Looking for a good mix of color and hopefully some breeding. Any advice on species and stocking levels would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Shell dwellers. I can't think of any other Tangs that will work in such a tank.
Possibly one of the smaller sandsifters but I'm not sure on that as I have only kept ones that need much more room.
You aren't going to get very good use of the space in your tank, with Lake Tanganyikan fish. You also aren't going to get much of a mix. I mean, you could have an active tank, with a pair of Neolamprologus pulcher or brichardi, and a ton of their babies, but that's about it.
Like I recommended before, your tank is very well suited for keeping some nice Angelfish. If that doesn't work for you, perhaps trade in your tank, for one that will work for Tanganyikan or Malawi cichiids.
