Hello,
My male Brevis who I have had for almost four years just passed away.
My question is, what is the best way to find a new mate for the female.
Would I have luck just buying another male, or would I be better off to get a small group and let her pair off with one?
Any experience or suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

Re: Brevis Question
Add a group of juveniles, but there is no guarantee that any will pair with her...2 of the new ones might pair instead.

Re: Brevis Question
If you want to find a new mate for this specific female- and I understand the sentiment- then adding a group of juveniles makes no sense, because they are most likely to (eventually) pair off with each other. Your best bet would be to find a young male about her size, and to introduce them carefully. There may be a bit of ritualistic aggression initially, but odds are that it won't be too long before the female accepts the new suitor, and the young male will be happy for a breeding partner. Standard cichlid husbandry; it works well with N. brevis. Good luck.
