I tried to buy a glass top for my 40 breeder from these guys. If you've looked for a top for a 40 br. before, you know they are not very easy to find. Ordered the one piece top on the site and was sent the two-piece with room for the center brace for a different tank. After reading all the return policies, I just decided to cut my losses because I needed the top right then. Went to Lowes and bought a sheet of egg crate/light diffuser and cut it out to fit the tank. I probably could have argued with them over the phone and got them to send me another one but the 30 bucks or whatever it was, wasn't worth the aggrevation. I would have had to send it back and so on. Alot of time and energy for little reward. I will not be buying from them again. One last thing, when I went back to the site after I recieved the wrong top, it said they were out of stock on that top. My assumption is that when I placed my order, they realized they were out and sent me a top anyway, instead of contacting me to let me know they were out.
I have ordered fish several times from numerous sources but none were ever packed and arrived in the great shape as TFP. They double bag, use oxygen, and on cichlids they put a single fish in a bag! Even shellies! Buy with confidence from these guys. The only negative is they don't take PayPal as payment.
"Web Site Price Matching Makes Supplies Excellent"
The live stock is questionable in quality and price; buy knowing it can be found for less and likely better quality. However, if you sign up for promotional pricing via emailing, free shipping or percentages off an order --you can do very well when also price matching pet/aquarium supplies from any where on the web in stock. It may takes some time to put an order together, but a lot of money can be saved.
has used this retailer 2-3 times.

"Great dry goods selection, great open house sales, bad livestock"
This store has VERY cheap prices on LOTS of dry goods... All their prices are minimum a few dollars cheaper than Petsmart and Petco and even Drsfostersmith.com!
The dry goods are generally a good variety and mostly quality products for sale no garbage items with fair prices.
Their livestock, at least the freshwater Malawi Cichlid livestock, was COMPLETE GARBAGE...
Lots of hybrids, lots of mislabeling, and I overheard a lot of bad/questionable advice the employees were giving customers...
So...this is NOT a store you want to go for live fish... I highly advise you go to another reputable store or buy from breeders.
But, their dry goods are cheap... Just for their prices alone for dry goods, it's well worth it to save up and spend a small fortune on dry goods that would normally cost a big fortune at other stores..
I visited for the first time yesterday. It wasn't a bad drive...about 1:45 mostly highway. At first glance I was impressed by the size of the building. Inside the store appeared well organized and clean. I was just price shopping mostly so wasn't too concerned if anyone offered me help, which they didn't. For the amount of inventory they have they could use a building 1/4 the size. The aisles are spaced big distances apart making it look like they have more on-hand than they really do. I was shocked by how many tanks, some very large expensive ones had cracks and chips in them, yet they remained on the floor for sale. Are they joking? I'm an AGA/Aqueon fan for my tank setups, they deal mostly in cheaper makes. They had less inventory of the Aquaclear products I use than my little tiny LFS and they were more expensive. In fact, there are no deals here with maybe the exception of the loose rock they sell. They do have a real nice selection and the price is decent too. A little far to travel just for rock however. I keep african cichlids so limited myself to only those two fish aisles they had of them. Mature peacock prices are astronomical for fish that really weren't very good looking. Any fish larger than two inches was simply overpriced. They did have some juvies of varieties I've only found online. They were priced fairly, but the common theme of all the fish was extroardinarily underfed fish. They were skin and bones.
I had a good experience with these folks recently with my first ever online fish order. I ordered two Aulonocaras online from them and they shipped them out the very next day. They were packed up very well and arrived alive. I did loose one days after they arrived however but after emailing them a picture of the dead fish I got a friendly response and a quick refund for my loss. Their pricing was a bit higher than most for the fishes I wanted but it's hard to beat their 5 day guarantee on fish. I would suggest giving them a try if they have the livestock your looking for.
I decide to go with that fish place to try out NLS unfornately, I got one good formula the other was pretty much all mold. I called stayed on hold forever when the original person who answered the phone said they would check the batch and send me another. They must have not done that because the second was covered in mold. Same customer service next call and they said they would credit me which they didn't until I reminded them again that I never receive credit. I finally did receive my credit but I doubt I will try them again.
I used to love this place, it always seemed like a giant playground for fish buffs. I love their cost on goods, but lately, this place has been going down hill. I live about a hundred miles from the store and I used to justify the trip with the amount of money I save on goods. But in the last year or two the service has become non-existent. I went up there on Memorial Day for a light and they said they didn't have it in stock in the store or at their warehouse, but I stayed with a friend and checked in the next day and the shelves were full. They basically use sale prices to up-sell people. The manager refused to even apologize for not having the product in stock on day 1 and upon my return she saw men and then when I asked for her I was informed "she is on her lunch and will be back in a hour or so". So I have had a bad experience, that stuff happens. I forget about all that and once again make the trip for some livestock. When I get there the livestock are obvious hybrids, and when I ask the "expert" / "Marine Biologist" if they are going to do anything about the hybrids or even talk to the vendor he replies "Why would we". Their cichlid livestock is full of mislabeled poorly light hybrids. Buy livestock elsewhere. If you are going to order, don't order lights, they get broken in the mail and the current management refuses to do anything.
I chock this down to a place that USED to be a good fish place. I will be looking
I have ordered several times form this company, and while they do have cheap pricing on most goods, their customer service is utterly horrible, I spent over an hour on hold trying to fix a simple issue with an order and still got nothing. They also have a tendency to just ship items with no notification.
I've never found a bigger selection or cheaper prices on dry goods. Huge store, huge selection, hit or miss service. I once tried to buy cichlids from a mixed tank and asked the employee which fish was which. He looked at what was written on the tank and told me the the fish (labelled OB) was the labeotropheus trewasse because OB stood for over-bite. When I told him it stood for orange blossom/blotch, he angrily replied "we have a marine biologist on staff!". If you visit, avoid weekends. The crowd is insane-huge lines, no parking, etc.
"Great store-questionable knowledge (Fridays at least)"
I recently went down to TFP it's about an hour and half drive round trip. I went there for one thing demasoni. I did my research got advice from the site. First, they weren't very busy and they were slow to aid. When I requested 12 demasoni, the girl ran to her manager who told me I'd end up with 1 or 2 and I may get a "pair", funny they're not pairing fish. When confronted with this fact the manager came back with, "well, they're pseudotropheous, you can't have more than 1 or 2, you know pseudotropheaous". I wasn't impressed and left without purchasing the fish as hard as that was. I have a lead on a breeder and I'm more than happy to give them my money, I doubt I'll ever return to TFP.
The Stingray petting area was awsome. Purchased a fluval filter, the man explained it to me very nicely and in conversation i told him i live in town and have clorine in my water, so he put a "paid" sticker on a bottle of water conditioner and gave it to me FREE just for buying the filter, which was at there 20% off sale so i was already getting it cheap, the filter works awsome and i will be returning there shortly for there 5.99 demasoni!!!
I just received my second order from TFP and I am impressed. Not only did my order arrive on time and well packed, but there was a bonus AC70 filter in the box that I didn't order. I called them to let them know of the mistake, and they told me to keep it and thanked me for being honest. This place is great!
