"Disappointing, better buffers are available.."
Disappointing as API products are usually pretty good. However these PH buffers are not of the same standard. I used this product (and proper ph 7.5) when setting up fry or smaller tanks. It didn't dissolve very well, and didn't increase the ph effectively, therefore it just wasn't worth the money. There are better buffers on sale, Kent and Seachem Malawi/Tanganyika buffers are better value and far more effective.
as the previous reviewers, my ph level sky rocketed to red as well, however none of my fish died. did not hold pH for very long. using baking soda was alot more easier and cheaper.
I think someone needs to read directions more this prduct is grest it dissolves well in a 5 gallon bucket with water at least 80 degrees {as it should be in a af cichlid tank} I have no problems and I only use it when adding water to my tank the ph never drops below 7.8 and never goes above 8.6 My fish seem to love it. I have breeding fronts and some other tans.I can't see the problem these people had.
After folowing the instructions, I went to the store came back and found my water had turning RED and two of my fish were dead... THe PH had sky rocketed. I would say there are better ways to raise Ph than this product

"So so results..."
I agree with the previous reviewer, the biggest problem with this product is it's ability (or lack there of) to disolve in the water. I've had a heck of a time using it in the past, although it did work as intended once it was dissolved.
I ended up using Texas Holy Rock (limestone) in my mbuna tank and didn't need this product anymore.
This product would be great, if only it would dissolve! Even after stirring occasionally over a two-day period, much of the powder remains undissolved. Tech support has not returned e-mails.
