The quality of frozen with the convenience of flake. Unlike other flake foods, formula flakes are made using fresh seafood along with stabilized vitamin C and other immune boosters for unequaled results. Your fish will show better color, better growth and better health. Ocean Nutrition has taken their 20 years of knowledge and expertise in making the world's best frozen foods, and put them into a superior line of easy to feed, easily accepted flake foods.
I use this in combination with NLS cichlid pellets as the staple diet for all of my african cichlids. The value is fair as compared to other quality flake foods. I will tend to agree that it does tend to turn into 'dust' towards to bottom of the container. I save that 'dust' and use it for feeding my fry. This is a very good green flake food.
Granted it is all I feed them but they eat it more than willingly. Rarely does a flake make it to the bottom, and if it does my synodonis gladly pick up the scraps. I heard that this foos has to high of a fat content but right now all my mbuna are juveniles and that level of fat content is not bad for them. It is true that the flakes break apart and at the end of a container you are left with some dust, but oh well what flake food is different.
I've used this ever since I got into Africans. Recently, I recieved a free extra large canister of Formula Two from Ocean Nutrition for taking part in a product test (not to mention a free XL can of Vegi Formula and an XL can of Formula One and a box of cichlid salad and a polo shirt). Apparently, if the food comes stright from the manufacturer, the flakes are HUGE! Also, the last can I bought from an online retailer, the flakes were a lot bigger than the store bought can. If anyone is going to use this stuff, buy it from an online source - it removes one of the middle men, thus reducing the amount of time in transit which leads to the flakes turning into powder.
The product itself is great! My fish have never refused it and the go crazy when they see the green topped container come out of the cabinet. Never been disappointed with an Ocean Nutrition product.
I bought one of the large (and expensive) containers of this stuff, it was a HUGE can. I must have used it for two weeks and all that was left was powder. I threw it away because it was useless for my adult fish. Actually, after this expereince I quit using flake food altogether and only feed pellets and fozen food. My tank is cleaner and I'm happier.
Brought some great color in the reds in my fish, also my Labs love it.I use both the formulas.Good sub for spirulina and brine shrimp flake. It's also available in a pellet as I too find that the flake is a little dry and does come apart in water very easily.
