"coating looks fake"
pros..easy to clean, very little dust, many interesting colors. cons...epoxy will come off a little after time, and porous surface of natural rock helps bacteria grow for bio help. reminds me of poprocks candy, guess i just like real, non epoxy gravel. used it alot as a kid though
A while back I got 2 bags of the deep river gravel. I had black gravel and I wanted really, really dark brown gravel to mix in and add just a tiny bit of color, but not stand out. I looked at a lot of pics of the deep river and every single picture looked like it was really, really dark and the perfect color for what I was wanting to do. When I got it, it did look very dark and perfect for what I wanted. But as soon as I dumped it into the tank, it appeared to be 20 shades lighter and looked horrible with the black (my substrate looks black with light brown polka dots)
I suppose that's not necessarily the fault of the company (but they're the ones distributing the photos that are supposed to represent their product), but it's something to keep in mind. Your gravel may not look exactly like it does in the 100's of pics on the net.
