Re: Malawi Cichlid ID Help
None of them may be pure, hard to guess.
#3 is a Red Zebra, or part Red Zebra
#2 is a weird one
#1 could be a Metriaclima zebra type, but then could be a mix. Such a fish without male color is near impossible to guess for sure.

+1
Only No 3 is worth keeping but is kind of odd looking.
Pretty sure No 2 is a hybrid.

Re: Malawi Cichlid ID Help
Maybe the 3rd pic is a M.Esterea
Nevertheless, they look perfect!
The first pic looks like a zebra of some sort. Could be a cobalt blue that has lost its color due to inbreeding too.

Erm do cichlids lose colour from inbreeding? Surely it is crossing variants/species then inbreeding and poor selection that loses colour?
But then "cobalt blue" covers a variety of variants of M.callainos mixed to get our aquarium type without much loss of colour?
M. esthera covers a number of variants too. Are we saying this one is pure M.estherae Minos Reef? I realy dought it.
It is though a pretty fish.

#2 looks like a cross between an mbuna and a peacock (or maybe a fryeri). That's certainly a unique looking fish!

Re: Malawi Cichlid ID Help
The links are no good anymore. But if I recall, the second very much resembled the markings of an exaperatus to me. I used to have a female that inbred with my Kenyi and Red Zebras a lot and thats what they looked like often.
