Not sure what is wrong with her...

Postby blavis » Thu May 10, 2012 8:20 pm

I have a community tank. 125g freshwater with various types of mollies, tetras, and other non aggressive fish. I do consistent 6-9 day water changes at around 30%. Everything is within parameters regarding ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. I thought this sunburst molly was prego but I just noticed that here scales are not smooth and that she is laying around on the bottom of the tank. The scales look swollen and pushed away from her body. Almost like if someone used a comb and went against the grain of the scales.

Below are pics. Please help. Cause I dont wanna leave her in there much longer.

Sorry for the loss of your fish. Sometimes these things come on so fast that there's not much you can do.
Were there any symptoms in the weeks/days leading up to the fish's death? Loss of appetite? Gasping? Not swimming?

How are the rest of your fish?
As a precaution I would first of all do a partial water change and gravel siphoning. Use a good quality declorinator. Then just keep a really close eye on them for the next few weeks. Feed them sparingly at least for the next week.

Again, sorry for the loss of your fish
