Lake Malawi Species • Shark mixing?

Hi everyone,

I have 7 cichlids in a 55 now, a giraffe, a kenyi, yellow lab x2, blue zebra x2, snow white. A friend of mine wants to get a shark to put in. Wondering if there are any freshwater sharks that mix well with them?

I think some people mix redtail black sharks with mbuna with some degree of success...

Giraffe is not going to be able to stay in the 55g..it grows too big.

Rainbow shark would work possibly as well.

Redtail shark is one of the more popular kept with mbuna.

I have two Bala sharks in my tank with no problems at all.

I have a rainbow shark and he has done great. I like the tiny bit of variety also.

Thanks everyone. I know it is going to get crowded fast. They are all about 2 inches now, and this summer I hope to get a 75 or 125 tank. How many are good to keep in the 55 gallon till then?

Giraffe (Venustus) needs a 125 or larger if you intend on keeping it until it is fully grown.
