I've tried Giant Danios in the past and they do start disapearing one by one. _________________ 150g Oscar Tank

| Don't use Silver Dollars. They are horrid dither fish. Jumpy as all heck. They actually cause more stress with my cichlids than without. I would get rid of them in a heartbeat if someone would give me a reasonable amount for them and if I hadn't raised them from when they were 1 inch. |

Hate to disagree but I have silver dollars in with both of my O's and they are the best clean up crew I've ever had. They are a little skittish at times but not enough to stress out an Oscar.

I don't consider these dithers and mbuna are African and require different water conditions.
Giant Danios max out at 4" I suppose a full grown O could swallow one but I doubt it. _________________ 125gal 1 Tiger O, 1 JD, 5 SD's, 1 Snow King Pleco

Do you have many? I've been told maybe 4 were not enough for their sense of security. As for cleanup crew, my catfish do a better job and take up less swimming space, but that's a personal preference thing. What size is your tank? That might have something to do with it too. Mine is a 125 that is heavily planted. I actually had one commit suicide during a water change by ramming itself into the glass (I started out with six, but one died within a week and the second committed suicide).
I am glad it's working for other people, but they just don't seem to work for me. |

I'm new to cichlids and dithers, but finding a strange situation is happening:
My firemouth (2") chases around my 7x sd's (3" each) during normal times, but actually gets intimidated by them at feeding time. The SD's are definitely hyper-active when motivated...
Just wanted to share my experience... |

I have 5 sd's in with my tiger O along with a jd, a fm and a pleco in a 125 and 3 sd's and an fm in with my lute in a 75 (moving to a 90 soon). The sd's just stay out of everyones way and eat all the leftovers. Do you have Oscars in your 125? Just asking because O's don't normally get along with plants very well. _________________ 125gal 1 Tiger O, 1 JD, 5 SD's, 1 Snow King Pleco

I do have an O in my tank. Those SD's are actually harder on plants than the O. The plants are almost all ephiphytes (java Fern and Anubias). Here's a pic from about a month ago before I got some new plecos and EBJD's:

Yes sd's can be very hard on plants I'm surprised the O hasn't destroyed them tho. Nice looking tank you have. _________________ 125gal 1 Tiger O, 1 JD, 5 SD's, 1 Snow King Pleco

| With the CO2 injection, the plants grow faster than they can destroy them. Thanks for the compliment. |

| I'd try 6 of each at least to get the desired effects. Too few, and you'll have to worry about excessive aggression towards one or two. |
