| I have an empty 20g long tank that I want to set up. I checked out the cookie cutter suggestions on this site, but I was wondering what other possibilities there are. |

| Also, the cookie cutter suggested that a pair of Black calvus could be housed in a 20 long..is that right? |

personally i wouldn't. i feel like they are too big
the few suggestion i would offer would be:
shelly colony
shelly+ julis
all julis
brichardi colony or other small neolamp colony _________________ 55 Gal Malwai/Victoria 29 Gal Haplochromis sp.44 "Red Tail" fry tank 29 Gal soon to be Tanganyika 1.5 Gal Crowntail Beta |

Yep, a pair of calvus will do nicely in a 20 long. |

The dimensions are 30" x 12" x 12" correct? That's plenty of room for a pair of calvus. |

see a calvus gets to 6 inches, i have never suggested a 6 inch fish in anyhting less than a 48" tank _________________ 55 Gal Malwai/Victoria 29 Gal Haplochromis sp.44 "Red Tail" fry tank 29 Gal soon to be Tanganyika 1.5 Gal Crowntail Beta |

There are some fish that get 6" that are not suitable for smaller aquariums like aggressive, fast swimming fish. Calvus are peaceful, laid back fish, they don't move about quickly and they really don't need as much space as some other fish of comparable length. Altos do not behave like haps or mbuna and besides calvus take years to reach the 6" mark and not all of them make it to that size. A 20 gallon long is a great tank for a single pair of Calvus. Most people on this board recommend Altos for tanks of 36" that are populated by another species as well. |

i see, it's like when you have a 3 inch fish that is too fast active and agressive to put in a 30 inch tank even though the body size works _________________ 55 Gal Malwai/Victoria 29 Gal Haplochromis sp.44 "Red Tail" fry tank 29 Gal soon to be Tanganyika 1.5 Gal Crowntail Beta |

| I keep my pair of Cylindricus in a 20 long. They are full grown adults, I have never had a problem. |
