I went to the Texas Cichlid Association auction yesterday looking for Tanganyikans to stock my newly cycled 72 with. I ended up bidding on 6 young Tapajos and won them for $20! I can't even buy two of them for that price at my LFS!
They are pretty small, all around 1" to 1.5". Since the tank was already setup for Tangs, I just have to pull some rocks and the shells. These little guys just LOVE the sand I have in there. Within 1 hour of being out of the bag, they were already running around sifting the sand for food.
My question is, what is the best thing to feed them when they are this small? I'm thinking some kind of small sinking pellet? Will they come to the top and eat flake once they settle in?
Thanks and I'll get some pics and post them tonight. It was already dark when I got home lastnight and I left the light off so they could settle in better.

Mine have always ate anything, off the bottom or from the surface. Ravenous little buggers. |

I feed my growing cichlids (orange heads, bolivian rams, satanoperca leucosticta, laetacara dorsigera) Hikari micropellets and NLS cichlid pellets. They both sink. I'd say that the micropellets are easy to eat for any fish over about 3/4". The slightly bigger guys can also manage the NLS. Since your fish are only 1"-1.5", NLS might be a little big. But remember...your fish will grow!
Congrats on the great deal, too! I looove my orange heads. They're beautiful fish and very fun to watch |

Well these six aren't shy at all LOL. They are eating everything I put in there so far. They are loving the frozen/thawed bloodworms, Tetra Cichlid Crisps, HBH Veggie Flakes, and HBH Meat Flakes.
I tried to get a pic of them, and this is the best I could do out of about 50! Fast little guys that don't sit still LOL
