i am a cichlid fanatic, i used to have some cichlids before but wasnt successful. i was young then during the time, but now that im a little old i wanted to start again and make it perfect!
What size tank are you going to get....that really depends the major factor in what to recommend to keep and what you are looking for....water pet? species? breeding?
How large of a tank and how vigilant will you be in water changes? You have to remember that both fish you are looking at get exceptionally large. You also have to consider the ease of both of these, in that they are not very easy.
To be honest I wouldn't keep either of those in a 80 gallon tank. Frontosa need a 6 foot length tank and the Dovii is at least the same if not more. But, that is just my opinion since they both get at least 10" in length full grown. Frontosa's do better as a group and not individual.
thanks! well i think ill just go with frontosa, 1 male & 3 females... do you guys think its okay? ill be buying my tank within the week and still i have not decided! and probably get my fish after a week.
As far as I know, people have always recommended a 125+ for Fronts because they are a social fish and they get huge. I personally couldn't see having more than one full-sized Frontosa in my 75 and have it live comfortably -- much less 4. Perhaps if you grew them out in the 80 and then upgraded that would work. I'm not a Frontosa expert, so I might be wrong.
the fronts will prolly be fine in a tank of that length.
