where do you guys get your lights, and what kind is the best to get... do you get at a hardware store, or the fish store. not sure if it matters, but i have a 90 gallon.

I like Aquaglo's from Petsmart. They're cheap and look great imho. Too bad Marineland doesn't use similar bulbs in their new tank setups. The one(s) that come with them are awful, unless you enjoy yellow water.
Otherwise ask your lfs if it's ok to return a bulb, and try a few that way. Or just experiment with a 20 gallon until you find the light you like.
The best lighting I found by accident. I purchased a 48" Coralife dual T-5 wih the 10k and Actinic blue bulbs (http://www.aquacave.com/48-aqualight-t- ... e-790.html).
I wasn't happy with the lighting and was playing with moving bulbs back and forth. Somehow at some point I stepped on the Actinic bulb bare foot (bulb shattered, not a scratch on me). So off I went to the lfs to buy a replacement bulb and decided on the Colormax instead of the Actinic and, wow, best looking tank I have.
