Peaceful Pseuodotropheus?

Postby Alexpol08 » Thu Mar 30, 2017 9:30 pm

So I've been looking into tank mates for my buffalo heads and i found a write up saying that they could be kept with docile Pseuodotropheus'. Are there such a thing? If so can someone give me some examples? Thanks

Seems like everything at some point was labelled as Psuedotropheus. They keep getting put into different groups like Chindongo, Metriaclima etc. People consider Yellows Labs and Acei to be the most docile Mbuna though.

Acei I agree with always seem rather pleasant fish, however I've had some truly horrible yellow labs over 10 years of keeping these fish.

The tank is question is a custom 38 gallon..... not sure of the dimensions. Not suitable for keeping Pseudotropheus and Buffalo Heads together.

Depending on tank dimensions... maybe Pseudocrenilabrus

Tank dimensions are 3ft long, 19 in wide and 13 in tall.

I wasnt sure if there were smaller pseuodotropheus or not.

On a side note. Before i think about adding another cichlud species to this tank, are there any objections to a group of cories?

There are "Pseudos" that would fit in such a tank, but not with the Buffalo Heads already there.

I'd either go with a pair of Pelvicachromis pulcher (kribensis), or some Pseudocrenilabrus if you could find them.

Or maybe a half dozen Congo Tetras, and half dozen Synodontis nigriventris

Im still trying to track down some congos. Atm i put in 5 (all me lfs had) mountain minnows. I figure the minnows will help till i find something more suitable.

I think a pair of kribs would be cool but i always thought they got too aggressive for the buffalo heads

If you are worried about regular kribs being too aggressive, go with some Pelvicachromis taeniatus... plenty on aquabid, and prettier than regular kribensis too.
