Lake Malawi

Postby bigrob » Wed Mar 29, 2017 1:35 pm

I was wondering what everyone keeps in their Lake Malawi tanks. I have a 100 gal all male tank. I try keeping it as really to Lake Malawi as possible. I do however have 2 Dwarf Synodontis Petricola (from Lake Tanzania) and I have 2 bristlnose Plecos. (and the reason I have those is they do such a good job cleaning) Now I just Googled Lake Malawi and read that a Spiny Eel is Native there along with a few other fish but is this so? And so any of you keep them? I read that the Fire Eels falls under that family with is Mastacembelus.

I have never seen a Malawi spiny eel. Most of the spiny eels for sale are from Asia.

Aethiomastacembelus shiranus (G√ľnther, 1896)
Aethiomastacembelus sp. "Rosette"

I haven't personally kept any, though they have been rarely available in the hobby as wilds, and very expensive.
