175 gallon bowfront just went bye bye...

Postby MastaFlav » Wed Mar 08, 2017 1:30 am

Here's some pics of the 175 gallon bowfront tank in my living room. It's an all male mixed tank mostly peacocks and haps, but also 1 yellow lab, 1 yellow tail acei, and about 10 synodontis catfish. Also had a 3D background that I made with inspiration taken from many awesome tanks I've seen on here over time, so thank you all.

Unfortunately, the tank sprung a leak last week and I had to completely tear it down. About 6 inches of water had already leaked onto my living room sometime before I caught it, and I had to quickly move all the residents to another tank temporarily. I lost 4 fish in the process, a yellow tail acei, a synodontis euruptus catfish, a copadichromis trewavasae and a copadichromis melas :( but there is good news... :-?

These guys are now getting a new home! I'll be getting a 200g in the next few days, the dimensions are 72" x 24 x 33.5. I would love to get a tank longer than 6 foot, but that's not currently an option. I plan to add a few more haps when everyone gets moved back into the 200. I definitely would like to add at least 1 fossorochromis rostratus but would a group of them (maybe 3?) work in a tank with these dimensions and this stock? I would probably try to get them at around 5 or 6 inches. How fast do these guys grow? Any ideas, comments, or suggestions on a few others to add to this current stocklist? Maybe a group of yellow labs for the male? Another copadichromis? The tank boss and biggest fish in the tank right now is a 5.5 inch tetrastigma and the current mix was working great in the 175 with no issues.

Heres the stocklist that will be transferred to the 200g: :fish:

Sprung a leak? What happened? Was the tank moved? Old tank?

You have more fish and bigger fish than I like in a 72" tank already. Sorry about your leak!!

No idea how it happened but it is an older tank so I can only assume the seals just became deterioted and finally gave way. I do wonder how it leaked so much overnight with no prior warning signs though.. strange..Don't really have the time now to remove the background and do a whole reseal job so I'm selling it to a buddy dirt cheap. I'm pretty sure its an Oceana bowfront, do they even make 175 bowfronts anymore? Who knows, but I do know that a pretty sweet tank is in the works..pics to come soon

its not too crowded yet because they are still young but I hear ya. I wish I could get a longer tank but but the deal I got on a 6 foot 200 was too good to pass up for a new tank and it also has a very unique look which I kinda like...pics to come once the background is complete
