Aquarium Decoration (Rocks, Plants and Substrates) • odd question

ill be going to my local creek to get some rocks today. im just woundering what do u guys look for when getting rocks for your tanks sizes and shapes? i want lots of caves for hiding spots. also how should i stank them? its a 33 gallon tank.
