BIO Filter

Postby GRB12 » Fri Jan 06, 2017 10:43 pm

I am switching over a 55 gallon community tank from Barbs to Cichlids. The tank currently has 8 Barbs and I am going to have 10 cichlids, juveniles. My question is if I pull the Barbs from the tank on Sunday and receive delivery of the Cichlids on Wednesday will the BIO filter be impacted? I can rehome all my Barbs on Sunday in preparation of my Cichlids arriving on Wednesday. Another option I have is to use ammonia, left over from tank cycling, to keep the BIO filter active. I am a little nervous about using ammonia on a well established tank prior to the arrival of my Cichlids.

Any advice would be appreciated. I am trying to move the rehoming of the Barbs to Tuesday and hope this will all be a moot point.

No worries, the beneficial bacteria in your bio filter will be fine for a week or more without fish in the tank.
