This isn't a cichlid but not sure where to post it. It was sold to me as a botia Loach but when I got home I looked at pics of boatia loaches and the striping pattern didn't match up with the fish I bought. Here's a picture of the loach I bought. To me it doesn't look like a botia loach. Any ideas??

Thanks for any ID's

Thanks! Wow not even a loach. From what I read it can be aggressive. The guy that sold it to me tried to tell me that a Texas Cichlid I was looking at was an Oscar...lol I should've known....lol

The Leporinus is a truly miserable fish. The stores sell them because they are pretty, but in reality they are real pains in the butt. They are known as "eye biters" in some places because they attack tank mates by biting their eyes. Be wary with this thing, I had one once (made the same mistake you did), and was forced to bring the fish back to the LFS.

Yep....I saw a rather large one...12" or so in a large 400g tank beating the daylights out of a blue moori and some other fish. The owner of the LFS I think could care less about his mixing of fish. Sad.
