Calvus vs Compressiceps

Postby Jonesab7 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 12:18 pm

In researching Tangs, it seems like the Calvus and Compressicepts are very similar. I am curious:

What differences have you noticed in these two species?
How hard are they to tell apart?
How likely is a LFS to mix them up?
Are they priced similarly?

I am not much of a Tang Cichlid person, but if I am correct-Calvus have no scales on their heads are also not quite as "tall bodied". Yes, they are so similar in looks and behavior that I think many LFS mix them up.

Calvus have pronounced pearls on their bodies and Comps are more muscular bodied.

I have both in my Tang Tank, and even though the bodies look the same, I find it very easy to differentiate them
Of course the pearls on the calvus is a dead give away, plus the difference in colours
