So, I just looked into my female sumbu's shell while I was feeding them, and saw three babies at the mouth :dancing: Now I have some questions because I've never tried to raise fry before. I don't have any other tanks, so will they survive in the display tank? Do I try to feed them some bbs at the mouth of the shell? Any help on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
I've decided not to do a separate setup for this batch because I will be moving soon. After I get settled in my new place, I plan on setting up a nursery tank and raising some fry though.
I've been raising a few batches of Sumbu fry and they wil readily accept bbs. I fed them 3 times a day for about a month then gradually alternated with NLS crushed flake. Make sure when you do water changes you drip the new water in slowly. This has been the most sensitive fry I've raised when it came to water changes.
Thanks for the replies, but I haven't seen them in a few days, so I'm guessing they were eaten when they came out of shell. It looks like the only way to successfully raise these guys is in a separate tank.
I agree. She'll will be breeding again in about 6 to 8 weeks. When you notice she is staying in the shell all the time count about 11 days and then take her shell and all and put her in a little tank that is all ready to go with a sponge filter.
