Are there any keepers of this shell dweller on this forum trying to see what u think of these guys and how and what kind of tanks u have them in. I have a single male in all male 125 gal 3 lakes set up and this guy can hold his own with the other fish as far as having his own rock space Would like to one day get a female and see the breeding process. Any body done the breeding of these fish?

I've bred them. Anything 15 gallons or larger should work if kept alone.

Ok cool how aggressive are they as ateam in a community tank?

That all depends on what you mean as a community tank.

Great fish and lots of setups will work. My favorite way to keep them is in groups in a large tank. I had a few dozen in a 6' tank one time. Non-stop entertainment. Females will dig out under rocks and flirt with males as they go by. Males will spawn with multiple females. Females bicker a bit and the male will come around and get in the middle of it. Probably my favorite tanganyikan. If you can get some fry from a pair, set them up in a 33L. You can also go with a 55 and rock it up a bit. The weaker males will seek refuge in the upper rocks looking for opportunities to stake a claim. They really are a fascinating species to watch when in a group. Don't bother with shells, just rocks and sand.

prov 360 thanks for the info I just got lucky with the 1 male I have from lfs and they had it mislabeled so I purchased it and did some reading now I want a colony but they are not in any of the lfs here in San Diego so I guess I may have to do the online order deal???? But the male I have is very impressive to watch in the community tank. Thanks for the info and I will have to do some footwork to obtain more.

I sent 4 dozen to a guy out in San Diego a while back. Maybe check the local clubs?
